INTRODUCTION09 2012 - 2014 0014

The idea for the Friendly Flower was started when I moved from downtown Bozeman to the Cottonwood / Juniper country of Manhattan Montana in 2006.

I became interested in plants and their healing powers after attending classes taught by local herbalists.  I became more interested as I read about the native plants growing nearby.  It is amazing how many plants have something to offer.

Salves and teas have been used medicinally for thousands of years.

SALVES

IMGP7009A salve is an ointment for healing or relieving wounds or sores.  It is an ointment used to soothe the surface of the body.

I started making salves from plants that were locally accessible or grown in my garden.
I collect native yarrow, bed straw, juniper, and arnica.  I also use calendula, echinacea and thyme from my own garden.

I like the idea that these are natural healing aids.  I know where every ingredient comes from.  The plants are not enhanced, cooked, or concentrated.  They are gently infused in olive oil which is then made into the salve.  I add vitamin E, bees wax, and a small amount of selected essential oils that also have healing properties.

Please remember that arnica salve is not to be applied on open wounds or taken orally.

LIP BALMS

IMGP7013

The lip balms are made with infused olive oil as well as coconut oil and essential oils for flavor.  I have nine different flavor combinations.

TEAS

As my garden expanded I discovered that the herbs I grew also had medicinal healing qualities.  I am a firm believer that everyone can take a few minutes every once in a while to:

IMGP7002Relax ……… smell the flowers ……….. use the flowers’ healing powers

I grow three different kinds of mint, as well as sage, lemon balm, chamomile, lemon thyme, parsley, lemongrass and stevia.

I have developed twenty one different teas.  Some are stand alone herbal and others have added spices, as well as green or black tea,

You can add honey if you want.  Some already have stevia as a sweetener.

I cut and dry the plants, strip them from the stems, bag them into tea bags, and package them by packs of 20 tea bags.

The teas may help clear your mind, provide gastrointestinal relief, improve your mood, and soothe sore throats.  They also may assist with cold and flu chest congestion, internal calm, improve circulation, renew strength and recuperation.
